Here’s 52 Things #3 – Last Sunlight.
I’m releasing a new piece of music every weekend for 52 weeks. I sort of know what I’m doing up until half way through March.
This is a new version of an old song – I’ve redone some of the guitars, bass and drums and remixed it.
Enjoy!
Maybe we’ll surface soon,
Under a winter moon,
Thaw must have left weakness.
Maybe we’ll freeze again
Awaiting the summer rain,
Ice in our veins.
A ship sails on a solid sea,
A perfect place for you and me,
A moondial turns until we move again.
Last sunlight for six months,
Last movement this year.
Last Sunlight Fading,
Ice in our veins.

Hi Tom,
I liked the way the chord progressions were unexpected. It never let me fit into a groove, but that probably is prosody with the lyrics….reminds me a bit of Tool and A Perfect Circle(and that’s a good thing). If you are ever interested there is a song a week forum at http://www.guitarnoise.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=23
It’s always nice to find others on the one a week grind

The one a week grind is new to me, but it seems necessary as I’ve got so many half finished songs! – Maybe the lack of ‘groove’ is the 7/8 time sig?

Groove was not the best word choice…..For me it’s not so much the tempo, it’s the 3rd and 4th chord set up the tension; especially the 4th….bass notes goes to tonic…yes? but the rest of the chord doesn’t let me “settle” in….but not that it’s a bad thing. It would just have to grow on me. I still like the ideas though.
Ah, I see what you mean. There may be something in that, but alas my hands were tied – this song was the result of a twitter based ‘chords challenge – we asked twitter followers to suggest a chord, then took the first four suggestions and wrote songs around them. So the one thing I couldn’t choose in this song were the chords!

Ah, yes. It looks like someone intentionally tossed a monkey wrench in the works. Nevertheless, good prosody of angst in the words and chord progression.
