Thank you so much for posting my little talk Tom. I’m looking forward to listening to more of your podcasts. What a great idea to organize podcasts! It was lovely to hear about 50/90 as well
I forgot to mention that my piano piece was called “Having Fun” and it was a first composition I’ve composed for 50/90.
Hey nice podcast!
I’d be interested more re: the clever key change trick. Did you know which key you wanted to get into and how you were moving there?!?!
My understanding of circle of fifths et.c is a little shaky.
I’d love to contribute a pocast about songwriting.. not that I’m an expert by ANY means at all. But I’ve learnt some helpful things.
Thanks
Ros
Hi Rose,
If you want to contribute, please do! I don’t think any of us would claim to be experts, and it’s always good to hear the perspective of other songwriters.
The key change that Nadia used is quite a common one – just up a tone. So she started in Bb, then moved up to C. That’s the sort of key change you get in a lot of pop songs, but it certainly isn’t the only option. Classical music often moves up a fifth or fourth.
Changing to the relative minor if you’re in a major key (or major if you’re in a minor key) is another effective option.
The best thing to do is to try things out and see what sounds good!
Brilliant podcast and great idea
Awesome.
Glad you like it, Matt
Fancy contributing? I’m sure my readers would love to hear some of your ideas. Something on the joys of live looping would go down well…
Would love to – just let me know mate
This is such a good idea. Thanks Nadia for sharing your work. Tom, I will send you a piece soon.
Thanks for listening, Roddy. I’m looking forward to your contribution.
